bug/animal club

i am going to start a bug/animal club at home. we used to have one at school, but our teacher said we had to stop it because it was distracting us from our schoolwork. so far, i think i am going to take care of caterpillars and geckos. does anyone else have any ideas and/or websites to get supplies? at school, before the club stopped, we had Frog Moss for our geckos. does anyone know where to get that? we didn't get it ourselves, our class helper brought it. i'm thinking about keeping crickets, exept i can't think of anywhere to get them. i know real good places for caterpillars and geckos, though.

  1. I think any pet store will have crickets, and they're probably not very expensive. Have you thought about having a hamster? I had three hamsters when I was growing up and I loved them! It was so much fun to take care of them.

  2. This is Grandma Shirley. Bella, Google Carolina Biological. It's a company with a fascinating catalog, just full of all kinds of scientific things about and for animals. I hope Grandpa Mike and I can come see your bug/animal club. Auntie Katie's hamsters were named Gort (I, II and III) Bruce and Belanna. Bruce was named after the shark in "Jaws" because he alwasy tried to bite.

  3. This is really Grandpa. You might be able to find crickets at a pet store. Pet stores used to sell crickets as food for pets like snakes and iguanas, but probably not as pets themselves! I don't know what you would feed a cricket. Try feeding it broccoli and see how it chirps!!

Whatever pets you get, make sure that you take pictures of them. We have no pictures of Bruce and Belanna, for example. Nor do we have pictures of two of the dogs we had when your Mom was your age or younger. Ask her about Spike George!
